The founder: Pierre Balmain

Considered one of the most innovative designers of the post-war period, Pierre Balmain was born in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne on May 18, 1914. After beginning to study architecture at the School of Fine Arts in Paris, he soon understood his vocation for fashion and began working in various sewing workshops in the French capital until creating her own brand in 1945.


From there, the Maison Balmain saw an era of expansion and success from the fifties backed by the support of many personalities of the time such as Vivien Leigh, Brigitte Bardot, Marlene Dietrich and the first lady of Nicaragua Hope Portocarrero, among other.

After the great success of the first years in which it contributed to revolutionizing the world of fashion with its modern, elegant and voluminous designs, the house experienced a moment of crisis in the 70s that was accentuated by the death of its founder in 1982.

The collections of the Maison Balmain stand out for the use of intricate haute couture techniques that can be seen above all in a multitude of small details such as finely padded leathers, high quality embroidery, intricate fabrics and elegant corsetry.
